So let’s talk about Instagram, aka IG, aka insta – what is it and how do you use? And more to the point would you want to?

What a timely post! I’ve been thinking about IG for a little while but have been dithering but your post may have given me the nudge…
-
Here’s hoping the nudge works 😉 If you do set up an account there is now a thread on the FB page for you to put your name in – or alternatively let me know here 🙂
-
-
Great piece for people thinking about becoming part of the Insta community. Have to admit I’m a total IG addict, it’s certainly my favourite social media app.
-
Thanks Amy – I thought all social media apps were created equally but no!!!
-
-
I’m ruthquilts on Instagram. I have to say that I don’t like or use it very much as I’m a desktop PC girl at heart.
-
Found you Ruth! n Whilst it is a mobile phone app you can look at feeds and comment whilst on the desktop – not sure if you knew that? But you can’t add photos from the desktop.

I’m corinnecurtis12. I’m an erratic IG’er but like the way I can IG with photos straight from my phone, and share the post directly onto my facebook page. I don’t use mobile data, so my IG posts when I am out and about just sit in my phone until I get to a wifi connections. Next step is to join an instagram QAL I think.
-
Hi Corinne – my use of IG directly increased when I got a package that had date included. I know of one QAL just about to start #thecommunitysampler run by Sharon Holland and Maureen Cracknell. Intro post was last week and it’s all free!

If you use Instagram to share photos of your sewing makes, please do add the tag #ukqu I like Instagram, it is a super informal shared photo album. One enjoyable trend on Instagram to follow is the #saturdaynightcraftalong. Hope to see you in IG x pollyanna012
-
Morning Anne – just requested to follow on IG! The #saturdaynightcraftalong is a wonderful community isn’t it? I will do a post about that next weekeend 🙂
-
-
I’ve used Instagram for some time but not aware there was and IG feed for UKQU but will go over and follow. I’ve used my feed for various things not just quilting, and sometimes link posts to Facebook.
Still getting used to UKQU website and remembering to visit this from time to time.-
Found you! The UKQU feed is relatively new and just being promoted now and will hopefully become an additional community for the UKQU members.

This is really moving and I love the quilts shown. It is a great thought provoking feature Sylvia on a subject we should never forget.
-
Thank you again, Sylvia, for giving me this wonderful opportunity to connect with quilters in the UK (and beyond!) on your beautiful, user-friendly site. I’m honored and delighted.
-
Amazing story Jeanne, I’m going to share this with my quilting group and see if we can help you with a piece!

That would be fantastic, Amy! Thank you.

I’ll certainly be talking about this to our quilting group on Wednesday. I’m sure that some of them will want to be involved. Thought provoking project.

Duck, duck, duck, duck….duck?

Over the Hill and far away
One little duck went quack quack
and … hopefully one more life saved!
-
-
I love the wee ducks, I never knew that such a wonderful project existed and I’m off now to have a further read.. unfortunately the blood transfusion service no longer visits the western isles as it became not viable with so many ferry cancellations so financially and loss of donated blood in delay getting it back to Inverness
-
It’s a brilliant project and one that helps save lives too.

What a lovely idea. They are sooo cute…I’m off to take a quack peek

Oh my!!!
What a wonderful blog, thank you so very much in blogging about this and bringing to my attention and hopefully to all the others who happen on it. I can assure you I shall be making so many aware of this LYD awareness campaign, an illness that we all dread. For those of us who on the side lines feel helpless in having to sit and watch as loved ones take on a frightening and painful journey, that us fortunate in having good health can only imagine, a little something to feel like we are doing ‘our bit’.
I cannot wait now until Monday to take patterns to all the ladies in my knitting group and spread the word on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to the quilting groups I hold and attend.
Believe me I shall even be telling my friends in the pub!
So very close to my heart.
LYD will (with considerable re-telling, knitting and sewing) be in abundance in these Somerset towns.
Off to spread the word.-
Sharon, that is wonderful! Thank you xx

These are great Sylvia, my next make I think – might even use freezer paper as a template and try making the tag on calico!

Great Review, Sarah, and totally matches my experience of a Doughty’s roadshow (near Brigg, Lincolnshire). I’m definitely hoping to get to more of these in the future.
-
The link above will tell you were there roadshows visit, I always try to get to Fremington every year. A small group of quilters put on a good show and deserve my support. Of course there is always the fabric
-
-
It was indeed well worth a visit! I really shouldn’t admit to going to it, especially given the title and overall message of my blog this month (to be published tomorrow), but I did indulge in fabric purchases.
-
Christine, I am on a fabric ban but needed wadding so went along, it was good just to stroke the fabric
-
I should be on a fabric ban, but as I’m making Project Linus quilts – I justify it that way! It certainly was good to stroke the fabric, and I had a lovely chat with one of the Doughty’s chaps.
