Abigail Sheridan de Graaff wrote a new post, cut & alter : Half Square Triangle (HST) Tutorial – Part 1 8 years, 6 months ago
I hope you enjoy the various methods of making these cute little blocks. I love the size of 2 1/2″ squares, they are kind of my go-to size for squares, so the following tutorial is based on that size.
2 AT A T…

Very well explained Abigail, I love the step by step images too. So easy to follow. Thank you.

Thanks for visiting and commenting Carol. I am very happy that I wrote all this down because until it becomes second nature to me it is great to be able to refer to it – rather than having to figure it out every time!

Hi, I am very new to all this … well, yes I am! In terms of FMQ. I am attending a workshop in March to start my own journey, so, my question to you all is what would you recommend I could be doing to prepare, bearing in mind my current experience is a couple of failed attempts and a screwed up mess in the corner of the sewing room where it…[Read more]

Doodle, when ever you can. FMQ is a lot to do with muscle memory which then gives you one less thing to think about. If you see a design you like, trace it out over and over again.

Abigail Sheridan de Graaff wrote a new post, cut&alter – An Introduction 8 years, 7 months ago
Where do I begin? Just make a mark, they say. Just cut the fabric, they say. But sometimes it seems so much harder than that. It’s that whole blank page thing – wanting to get that first page just right. …

I’m following your Fancy Forest quilt along, I’ve had the pattern for ages; I tried an owl, which went wrong, and then a fox that turned out just right. You might just inspire me to try that owl again 🙂
-
Hi Alison the pattern had sat on my shelf for nearly two years so a QAL seemed a perfect excuse to actually get it made. I was looking at the owl today …. hmmmm glad I didn’t start with that. You can join in any time if you fancy – thistles for January and Bunnies for February. Thanks for popping by and taking the time to leave a comment.

The site is looking great. Looking forward to all the new developments.

Well done Juliette, getting one finished, albeit by someone else, is a starting point. Also well done with the website. Little acorns and all that.
-
Great intro Juliet, yes you have lots to finish, I know I have seen the boxes lol. Looking forward to your next one. The website is such a good resource centre for us all.
It is great to see your dream is coming true, through you I have found some amazing friends, which includes you at the top. -
I love the orange quilt Juliet – traditional with a twist of citrus! You really must finish it.

These tops are fantastic Juliet, you must finish them when you can. And thank you for starting up this site in time for when I began my quilting journey, it’s been a treasure trove of information, advice and the wow factor for me.

Juliet Nice wrote a new post, Quilting Acronyms 8 years, 7 months ago
Do you know you UFO’s from your WIP’s? Quilters have acronyms for everything!
BC = bias cutBOB = Beginner’s Only Block (swap)
BOM = Block of the Month
DF = double fold
DSM = Domestic Sewing M…

Never heard of some of these, others made me laugh!
-
You beat me too it!
-
Brilliant – not heard some of these!
-
Would be helpful for those who don’t know the meanings, if acronyms were hypelinked or popup created across the website linked to this list. Saves getting asked frequently what it means.
Perhaps I should post this in website suggestions? -
