I haven’t read any more in the series yet. I have read a few books by a different author in the order they were released (very different genre) and found I didn’t enjoy them as they were very similar in style to each other. I might leave it a while then dip into a later book (if they don’t have to be read in a certain order).

I’ve just finished The Quilter’s Apprentice. I really enjoyed it and would love to be part of a quilting group like The Tangled Web Quilters. My mum started quilting by going to an evening group at different ladies homes. I also want to start up a business like Elm Creek Quilts!

… ‘Alias Grace’, by Margaret Atwood.

This is a big contrast to ‘The Quilter’s Apprentice’, and is quite a weighty read. It’s widely available, and if you just cannot face reading it in this unending heat, there’s also a TV version on Netflix.

Be warned that it does have some quite grim scenes in it though.

I look forward to seeing what you…[Read more]

It seems as if many of us have gone on to read the other books by this author in this series.

Do you think that extended series of books work? Or is it better to have novels as a ‘one-off’?

Really enjoyed this book as not one I would have chosen for myself but sometimes it is good to move away from the usual authors.

I found it quite a gentle book to just sit in the sun and read over the weekend. I might read another one but agree i might not enjoy them if i read them all in one go, every now and then would be nice.

Are you in a quilt group?
If so, how realistic is the depiction in the novel?

And is the Elm Creek group one that you yourself would like to join?

      Hi!!!

Some interesting ideas about whether or not to read other books in the series. I did find that if I read several in quick succession I got quite bored, but one every now and then worked fine! I found the Christmas one to be the most disappointing – I hadn’t quite registered that it was really a cook book with some small snippets of…[Read more]

My favourite one of the series has to be the Aloha Quilt, I learnt so much about Hawaii and that would be my ideal holiday to go Zip lining in Hawaii 🙂

I really enjoyed this book when I read it last year but felt I had to stop with just this one and not continue with the series…I’m sure I would get bored and that that would spoil the enjoyment I got out of this one.

I have to confess that I too love the idea of meeting with such an amicable group of women, all of whom are able to make time on a regular basis to quilt.
And for me this was also the first ‘quilt’ novel that I read.
      I’m enjoying re-reading it…

I love it, mainly because I would love a group of quilting friends (who i see in person as opposed to just chatting to on the internet) and lets be honest who wouldnt want to live and work in a place like Elm Creek manor. It was also the first fictional book i had ever read about quilting. However Im still going to read this one again this month…[Read more]

‘The Quilter’s Apprentice’ by Jennifer Chiaverini.

July is a manic month for me – it’s almost summer holidays, but not quite. Daily life carries on as usual, although this year the heat seems to be making every task take twice as long!

So the book for this month is a relatively straight forward read, and many of you may well already have read…[Read more]

      Hi Frances

I’d read your other posts and wondered if your book had arrived! I’m looking forward to finding out the July book too, it’s forcing me to make the time to read!

Finally got my book im about half way through it, not sure it will be a favourite (I think it jumps back and forth too much for my simple braincell). Any ideas what the next book will be since we are nearly in July 🙂

      Hi Arlene

That’s further than I’ve got! Maybe this summer I will get some time to plan something at least.

      Hi Arlene

Possibly not but while there’s less funding there’s less ‘research’ able to happen, so less help can be given… We should at least be trying to help those with mental health issues to lead happier, if not more productive, lives.
