Needles
The type of needle you use for hand quilting depends on which stitching technique you use. I stitch in the traditional way using the “rocking stitch”. More details about how to do this will be in the last pos…

One of the best things about UK Quilters United on Facebook, is how it brings quilters together in real life (the outernet!) instead of just the internet.
Whether you are looking for a friend for ‘cuppa and sew’,…

See you at the Blogtreat.

Denham is a great venue for a retreat, I have been there twice with Avril’s group. Some amazing quilts your group has made there! Love your flowerpot and Rainbow. So pleased you enjoyed it, and like Lyn I can’t wait to meet everyone again at the Bloggerati retreat in November!
-
What amazing quilts and sounds like a great time was had by all.
-
Always a pleasure to meet fellow quilters and our group ” Barclay Quilters” have been up and running for years with 3 successful retreats per year. Lovely to have met Juliet, if only from a distance just in case she spied my mini quilt…….
-
Fabulous. I love our annual trips to Paignton with my quilting group and this year I have a lovely trip up to Derbyshire to look forward to in July. Like many, with work and tutoring I don’t get much time to stitch myself, so a few days away just for stitching is a real treat.

Sylvia Priest – webmaster and quilter wrote a new post, The great Cabin Adventure 7 years, 1 month ago
I am getting ridiculously excited. A long last we plan to turn our garden cabin into my sewing room, mostly because I have outgrown the small bedroom and space in there has shrunk. Well, I say shrunk, but if tr…

Wow, hubby wont see you for weeks!!!
-
haha .. I cannot deny I had not thought of that either
-
-
Sounds wonderful. Look forward to hearing more about your moving to your cabin. An opportunity to sort through and remember all the quilts you have made. Wonderful
-
I am working on a set of bunting created from the scraps from all my quilts. Well, once I get started that is. All too often the quilts are gifted or donated, and what better way to remember them eh!
-
-
I can understand your excitement. Love the patchwork chair. Just make sure Tilly does not order too much extra fabric on the phone!
-
It looks lovely in there. And you will be able to lose yourself sewing away from the phone, the doorbell etc. I wish I had insisted in double glazing for mine!
-
I have long been telling all and sundry that I am building up a stock of fabric for if and when I can no longer afford to buy it. I have a badge saying ‘It’s not stash. It’s my retirement fund’! I am fortunate in that my OH encourages me to buy! After all, he says, if you don’t use it someone will! As we have a daughter and a grandaughter who sew, it’s a point. Our grandson enjoys a bit of sewing now and then, too!
-
Looks like its going to be the in place to go! How lovely is this to finally get a dedicated space. My small bedroom has also become outgrown, one day soon I too shall have another place to go. I bet you are dead excited.

The black background really makes the Kaffe Fasset Collective fabrics zing. The Lavender Lane quilt is exquisite, I adore the twiddled blocks. Taking pictures is essential to remember what you have made, especially if the quilt is going to a new home.

I love the colours and prints you have used, the quilt is so vibrant and happy.

Wow those are gorgeous!
-
Thanks, Juliet! I’ve had fun dreaming up different ways to put blocks together so students feel they are getting something new if they return each year.
-
-
Some amazing ideas, particularly useful because I am in a group making charity quilts from sometimes donated orphan blocks.
-
Thank you, Teresa. Orphan blocks can be a challenge (and I have quite a few myself) but the settings can often bring quite different blocks (and colours) together.

Yours quilts are fabulous, I have never made a sampler style quilt and you have inspired me to have a go when I have time

Snap. Without seeing this, a few months ago I made something very similar for the same purpose. I did use flannelette on the inside and put a pocket on the outside to hold pattern or small ruler. Works a treat to keep blocks in place. Great minds I think …
-
Hi Carol. That is a coincidence! Flannelette is a really good idea as it does need something to ‘cling’ to the pieces it is carrying. I tried to find some spare
fabric used for a hanging wall but couldn’t find it. A pocket in the outside is a really good idea as well. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
