Sue Burford wrote a new post, Another take on a Thread Catcher 7 years, 10 months ago
I have made several Thread Catchers over the past years and non of them have been that successful.
When I saw this idea on the main Facebook page, I just had to make one….. it is really cheap, and easy to make and…
-
Brilliant!
-
Not idea as I said but it is clever…
-
-
That would be great to hang over the arm of the chair in the evenings, hopefully I’ll then walk around with less thread hanging from my clothes and most of it on one of these. Also to keep one in my bag for back and forth to groups. The smallest of things………………………………………Thanks Sue.
-
Great idea. What size is it, please?
-
What eversize you like really, My fabric was A4 size and I folded it over the sides and ends by about 1.5inches each…..to encose the wadding….say 8 x 5 finished. Hope this helps….
-
-
What a simple-genius-idea! I keep a thread jar (I also embroider) but the pesky things want to go anywhere but in: and it is always on the wring side because I need my pincushion, my scissors etc. I shall be doing this NOW!

Sharon Reid wrote a new post, Environmentally Friendly Beeswax Covers 7 years, 10 months ago
I saw these wraps on line many moons ago and purchased my beeswax months ago ready to have a go and I have only just found the time to have a dabble.
I had a quick look on line at how people have been doing this…

-
What a fantastic idea instead of using cling film etc. A very cost effective way of using up scraps of material. I think these could be made and given as part of a present. Great write up with clear instructions.
-
Thank you Emily, hope you get to make some too.
-
-
These are fantastic! Thank for taking the time to write a tutorial. Do you need to overlock the raw edges of the fabric? Would they be washable?
Thanks-
No need to overlock as the wax holds everything in place, although I think next time I shall use my wavy edge cutter to alleviate the initial fraying from cutting to making. All advise I’ve seen on washing is a warm wash or wipe over with a damp cloth. You just need to ensure the water is not hot enough to melt the wax. Doing them stacked on top of each other was a great stumble on making, you just have to work fast to separate and get onto a flat surface but the great thing is once they harden put back in oven for a minute or two. Such a quick and easy make, let me know how you get on and thank you for your post here.
-
Thank you, I will give it a go and I do have a wavy cutter too!

Hi Sharon, thank you for this. Would you say that a dessert spoon of pellets would be enough for one 12 1/2” square? If not, roughly how much would you recommend ?
-
Morning Anne, hard to judge, I really didn’t use many. A dessert spoon I think will be plenty, just have some extra fabric at the ready to cut up and use just in case you find it is too much. Would be interesting to hear how you get on with that amount. A tip from using ours, after using a fair amount both mine and his through the summer, they are now ready to have another coating, I think where they are used daily and wipe/dunked in water they are no longer at their best. It’s time now to freshen them up and get back to good condition. The other two that haven’t been used so much are still fine and do the job.
-
Thank you Sharon, haven’t tried this yet as not sure when I will be using them, but it’s good to know x

Ok – you have done it. After reading this, I MUST get the quilting done on the quilt for my daughter made out of her late dad’s rugby shirts. (it was meant to be her birthday present a year ago, and a Christmas present before that…..) Hoping it can be a Christmas present this year. Thank you. xx

Thank you – or sorry, or perhaps well done for making the decision – and good luck with getting it finished! Make sure you show us the final result…

Lovely finished Boro piece Denise. What I particularly love about Boro is the ripples you get (front and back) which adds fantastic surface design. Your photos show this beautifully.

Thank you. There was a point I was going to bin the lot as it seemed to take for ever, but I am glad I carried it through.

Sometimes things seem to take forever. But it’s always worth persevering and good job you did with this one!

So nice to see young people entering the craft as well as the FOQ. Quite inspirational and unique work. Thanks Helen.
-
We do need to keep encouraging the next generation of quilt artists. They were so good.
-
It would be great if parents, aunts, uncles, or grandparents would give a gift of Young Quilter Membership to their children, relations or grandchildren. The cost is £5.00 for a year’s membership – they receive a goodie bag on joining together with regular newsletters and updates on regional activities as well as participation at regional YQ events.
-
This is a great deal and never realised that the Guild did this. Unfortunately I don’t have grandchildren yet or young relatives that I could encourage.

So much talent from the younger generation! I loved seeing all of them
-
Yes, so much talent.

Great to see the work of the next generation of quilters. They should be extremely proud of their work.

This was just some of them. Lots of great quilts!

Any of use ‘older quilters’ would be proud of these!

Thank you Ruth, so nice to get feedback. A worry at the time but the whole thing came together just right with so many different methods of applique too.

Where do I go to join the row by row

I clicked into shops and in ‘shop by category’ and then entered sew a row and the pattterns appear. Hope you can find by following this Sandra.-

-
Good piece of advice! My hubby works in H&S and I do try and position myself ‘properly’ before sewing but it’s so easy to get hunched up, especially with FMQ. But I find it goes better if you ‘shake it out’ and relax!
-
Thanks Helen. Shaking out and relaxing is definitely good for the creativity.
-
-
Very good advise Ruth.
-
Thank you Lyn. It is all back to basics which we do all forget about don’t we.
-
-
I totally agree with your comments Ruth, and one thing I would add is to have a drink. It only needs to be a glass of water, or G & T if that is what you would like. I frequently get so engrossed that I forget to have a drink – could go 3 or 4 hours….. It also makes you get up and walk around – so two plusses!!! x
-
Oh gosh I forgot that one Sue! I have to go down two flights for a drink so it is a really good break when I go for one (unless my husband is kind enough to bring me one up.
