I think by now most of you have seen the novelty of clips to hold your fabric together instead of the pins. I have tried the ordinary clips and I guess it’s just a matter of a habit or preference.
But then I was in…

Australia is a country rich in both flora and fauna. I wanted to celebrate this and make a wallhanging for my husband’s birthday.
Firstly, I started with a piece of plain white homespun and thought about the l…

Wow that is fantastic. Really have to study the technique but it sounds intriguing and the results are lovely. Thanks Sue.

I didn’t explain how you make the gel plate. You have to heat the mixture and dissolve the gelatine. Then pour into a tray too set. Once it’s done, you can reheat it and reset it in a different shape as required.

Thanks Sue.

That is gorgeous & the technique very well explained.

Thank you
I was out of my comfort zone with the paint but I really enjoyed the gel plate printing. It’s always nice to try something new.

Gorgeous wall hanging Sue. I love those bottle brush trees and pohutakawa flowers

Happy Australia Day Sue .. hope you are spending it sewing more beautiful quilts and wall hangings like this!

Cushion and Quilt from Recycled Shirts
One of the questions I was asked recently was whether patchwork and quilting was expensive. As with everything we do, it’s up to us. It can be very expensive but, on th…

Thanks for the article Jane, I love your shirt cushion and quilt, I have a few shirts in my stash and this may help me find my lost sewing mojo.
My first ever quilt was a rag quilt made with used denim jeans on the front and sweatshirts on the back using QAYG squares no wadding needed. My 6th quilt was made using the leftover strips from the same Jeans, and my leftover scraps of wadding sewn together, and backing was a piece of recycled flannel sheet.
Both are well loved by recipients. With so much waste in the world we should all endeavour to return to reusing and make a few recycled fabric quilts.

Karen, that’s lovely. I did a denim throw for one of my boys, it was made from all the jeans they’d finally grown out of or were too worn to wear. It took years to collect all the pieces and they moaned every time I pinched a pair of jeans, but it is well loved and used by them and all their friends. If you get your sewing mojo back, please do share your photos

I love the stained glass pieces – and looking at your blog has given me ideas as for the layout of photos on mine! It also reminds me that I really need to get on and finish a few more things; I feel a bit like Flynn Carson (in The Librarian films and series) – loads of PHDs – so much time, so little to do – no wait, strike that – reverse it! (Film reference there – but which film?!)
-
Not seen this before, Lyn your work is fantastic!! Well done! I know this was a while ago and have no doubt your work is even better now! Love it!

Thanks John

After using cheap starch I also have tried Best Press. I love it and although more pricey that supermarket starch it does last along time

A positive result. One of those things you see and hear about but reluctant to buy in case of wasting money. You’ve put my mind at rest and shall buy in future. Great review and write up.

Thankyou Sharon

I love Best Press, I use it all the time. I especially love the rose scented one, but it does leave a scent in the fabrics so I also have the unscented one to use when making things for my husband or son as they may not appreciate the smell of roses 😉

Is it readily available? I haven’t seen it in any shops.
