Sue Burford wrote a new post, MAKING A FABRIC POSTCARD 5 years, 12 months ago
Although most of the Members of the UKQU, there are a few Newbies who may not have made a Fabric Postcard. So, I thought I would share my Birthday Card Postcard which I have made for my No 1 Grandson!
What you…

As promised last month, the book for June has exactly the same title as the one we read during May; A Single Tread. The author for the June version is Tracy Chevalier.
The book takes us to Southampton and…

Never in our wildest dreams would we have ever imagined the changes to daily life we have had to make over the last couple of months. Who would have thought that we would be disinfecting shopping and parcels as…

Nina wrote a new post, Stash busting idea – face masks 6 years, 1 month ago
So far this year all my blogs have been about stash busting or the UKQU Book Club. This time I am sharing another stash busting idea, and a timely one at that in this time of lockdown – face masks.
The medical e…

Good morning, Nina. Thank you for doing a mask test. With all the mask patterns around on the internet it is helpful to us all that you have road tested some of them and found a final two that you like. So far I have made three masks of different designs and dismissed all of them for one reason or another. I have to make 15 for the family so want to get it right before I go into production!
Which style did you finally choose after road testing them both, fitted or pleated?
My only concern about Paula’s pattern is that four layers may make the mask a bit hot to wear.

Sue Burford wrote a new post, Spanish Bluebells 6 years, 1 month ago
When I was asked by Sylvia to write about Bluebells, I was intrigued and so set about finding as much information as I could. As most people in the UK who are Gardeners will tell you – the UK has been inundated with…

Wow your piece is really interesting and now I know why I am puzzled by some blue bells looking different! Thank you Sue. The piece is really lovely. Hope you are well and safe over in sunny Spain.

Thank you Ruth, I learned new things about them too, and I enjoyed making the wall hanging. Was going to give it away – but somehow it has found its way on to my workshop wall….. xx

Jane Galley wrote a new post, Spring Daffodil Framed 6 years, 1 month ago
I don’t know about you, but I feel as if I’ve missed spring. The last time I went driving anywhere, the snowdrops and crocuses were carpeting the green spaces. Then came Covid-19 and I seem to have missed the…

Ami Richards wrote a new post, Misadventures with a 505 spray 6 years, 2 months ago
I have been quilting for 3 years now and have ‘churned out’ lots of quilts in that time. Whenever I had completed a top, I always sandwiched it using safety pins and nothing else.
Originally, I used to roll aro…

I know how you feel, these challenges have made me want to try to do more pieces like this. Love the way you’ve finished it, I think I’ll have to try facings next time
-
Thank you Jane – and sorry for the late reply. I really like facings as a way to finish pieces, I’ve not done them often, but they are a great way to finish a piece that has a wavy edge.

-
What a fabulous blog! Not only do you show us your sketchbook, but the detail, the different processes you used are truly inspiring! Thank you!
-
Thank you Maggie! Sorry for the late reply. It is starting to dawn on me that maybe I may be some kind of artist after all!

Oh the memories came flooding back! I learned to sew on one of these, so when I went to secondary school and was confronted by a hand wheel Singer, it was a real step down from hands free!
I remember Mum changing the leather belt. It lived in an alcove by the hearth, so it was always available if you just lifted off the cover. She would only ever use 40 thread, but ours was a Jones. You can get a fair old speed going and it is a most satisfying noise!

What a great wall hanging! I like the fabrics used especially as they were scraps. I am glad you enjoyed doing this, it is good to learn new tricks. Recognised the Humber Bridge from your interpretation. I really liked doing mine too. Like you, I am looking forward to the next challenge. Home we have more of these Famous Places!
