What an interesting Blog. Thank you. It has made me think about my family phrases. Ooh and my grandmother was a tailor and she taught me to sew. She used to make me dresses and if I wasn’t available for a ‘try on’ for the length of the belt – she would wind it round her ‘ample’ waist and if it fit she would say that will fit our Sooney (my…[Read more]

Jane, you are a very brave lady! Although I am not going (too far to go from Spain, and we are over at Christmas – so the expense is another factor), I will be thinking of you all and hoping that you all have a great, rewarding and enjoyable weekend. I used to live about 2 miles away from the venue – so I can picture you all there. I am sure…[Read more]

Love the idea of a home away from home. I, too, have two machines and another one. My other was is a Newhome too, had it as a present to myself when I was widowed in 1978. It, too, doesn’t work but it still has pride of place in my workroom. Look forward to hearing more of your tales from the Acorn Falls…… thank you x

I used my one orphan block from the sew-a-Row as a Mug Mat and gave it to the recipient of my Spring Mini Swap.

Having just posted a photo of one of my quilts on the Mini Squilt Swap page – and read your very interesting post above…..I went back into my post and ‘named’ my quilt. Success – I am sure I won’t be the only one to heed your warning..Thank you.

Gosh, the kits are great. I would only be able to buy on line so I am wary about the quality of the fabric. (They don’t sell hem here in Spain in the Fabric Shops near me). Wonder which ones people would recommend?

I have made several Thread Catchers over the past years and non of them have been that successful.
When I saw this idea on the main Facebook page, I just had to make one….. it is really cheap, and easy to make and…

That would be great to hang over the arm of the chair in the evenings, hopefully I’ll then walk around with less thread hanging from my clothes and most of it on one of these. Also to keep one in my bag for back and forth to groups. The smallest of things………………………………………Thanks Sue.

Great idea. What size is it, please?

What a simple-genius-idea! I keep a thread jar (I also embroider) but the pesky things want to go anywhere but in: and it is always on the wring side because I need my pincushion, my scissors etc. I shall be doing this NOW!

I totally agree with your comments Ruth, and one thing I would add is to have a drink. It only needs to be a glass of water, or G & T if that is what you would like. I frequently get so engrossed that I forget to have a drink – could go 3 or 4 hours….. It also makes you get up and walk around – so two plusses!!! x
